Privacy Policy
Last updated: November 14, 2025
What we collect
- Account details you provide (e.g., name, email).
- Family tree data you enter or import (people, relationships, dates, notes, media).
- Basic technical logs to keep the site running (e.g., error logs).
How your data is used
- To operate and improve TreeAndFamily.com (render trees, manage accounts, back up data).
- We do not sell your information.
Visibility & sharing
Your trees are private by default. They become publicly viewable only if you switch their visibility to “public.” When private, your tree is visible only to you (and anyone you explicitly share access with, if you add such features).
You can also control whether details of living individuals are displayed or masked as “Living.”
Third parties
We may use service providers (e.g., hosting, backups) to process data on our behalf under confidentiality obligations. We do not share data for advertising or sell personal information.
Cookies
Essential cookies may be used for login sessions and site functionality. We do not use them to sell or broker your data.
Security
We use reasonable safeguards to protect your information, but no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
Retention
We retain data for as long as your account or trees remain active, or as needed to provide the service. You can delete trees or your account to remove data from active systems (reasonable backups may persist briefly).
Your choices
- Keep trees private or mark specific trees as public.
- Choose whether to show details for living individuals.
- Request correction or deletion of your data by contacting us.
Changes
We may update this policy. We’ll post the new date at the top when we do.
